Most of our tours are designed with flexibility in mind. It is easy to customise your itinerary by adding extra nights to any location – whether you want more time to explore or just enjoy some extra downtime.
Our wide range of optional experiences includes everything from city sightseeing to fjord cruises to dog sledding excursions, so it’s easy to create exactly the travel experience you want – or just explore on your own!
Extra nights are bookable for most locations included in our self-guided, self-drive and partly guided package tours.
Whether you book extra nights in a certain location will largely depend on your interests and budget.
To keep our multi-destination tours flexible and budget-friendly, we seldom include more than 1-2 nights in each location. This will still give you a good impression of each place, and keep in mind that the journeys between locations (e.g. scenic railways and fjord cruises) are a big part of the travel experience!
However, you may wish to have more time in a certain location. The capitals in particular offer a wide selection of interesting museums, boat trips, sightseeing tours and more. Similarly, in many of the smaller remote locations you will find optional outdoor experiences such as fjord safaris, hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing, etc. Extra nights may be necessary to accommodate optional experiences and additional sightseeing.
If you are coming from overseas, you may want to add an extra night in the beginning of the tour for jet lag recovery.
It might also be a good idea to include an extra hotel overnight before the start of the tour if the first overnight of the tour package involves unique accommodation (e.g. an ice hotel stay). This way you avoid missing the experience in case you are delayed (this is especially relevant in the winter).
We recommend adding extra nights when you submit your booking request to secure hotel availability.
Extra nights can be added in Step 2 of the booking process (‘Extras’). Open the relevant day by clicking on ‘View details’. The ‘Add extra nights’ option is found below the day’s itinerary and above the optional experiences. If multiple overnights in the same location are included as part of the tour, it is found on the last overnight in that location.
When booking an additional night at the beginning of the tour, you should enter your actual arrival date as the first day of travel (the booking summary will show the dates).
Extra nights are bookable for most locations included in our self-guided, self-drive and partly guided package tours. Extra nights can be added to our escorted coach tours immediately before/after the tour only.
If your tour has already been confirmed, you can add extra nights before the start or after the end of the tour before the final payment due date by sending an e-mail to info@authentic-scandinavia.com.

If you are still undecided, you can also add experiences later (see next question below). However, note that early booking is recommended as some popular experiences may sell out.
Yes, you can request extra nights and experiences even after you have received the tour confirmation (subject to availability). These can be added via your My Booking page up until the final payment due date, or by sending an e-mail to info@authentic-scandinavia.com.
There will be a EUR 30 amendment fee for adding extra nights or overnight experiences in the middle of the confirmed tour for each subsequent service that needs to be amended/rebooked.
The amendment fee does not apply to extra nights added before the start or after the end of the tour, nor to experiences that do not require any additional rebooking.
Extras should ideally be added before the final payment due date but can be requested later. To add extras after the final payment due date, please get in touch with one of our travel specialists.
All requests for additional services are subject to availability.
We recommend pre-booking experiences to secure space. This is especially important during high season and for optional winter activities, as some popular experiences may sell out.
If you wish to stay flexible and book experiences on the spot, you can do so at the local tourist information centre or directly with the service providers.
It is not possible to book additional experiences through us once your trip has commenced.
