Partly guided tours

Our partly guided tours are a mix of self-guided and escorted travel: For some stretches, you will be exploring by yourself, while other parts will be with a guide and/or group. This hybrid itinerary gives you flexibility, while also offering the benefit of local expertise and good company.

Frequently asked questions

On a partly guided (i.e. partly escorted) tour, some parts of the itinerary are self-guided while other parts take place in a group with a tour escort. You will not travel as part of a group or with a guide for the entire duration of the trip. The guided parts of the itinerary include private city sightseeing tours (the Baltics) and group shore excursions (Göta Canal).

Since we offer tours throughout the Nordic and Baltic countries, we are unable to meet travellers in person. But rest assured you are in for a stress-free experience: You will receive your travel documents, including a detailed programme with practical information, approx. one month before your departure.

For Göta Canal tours, the ship staff will be your main point of contact during that part of the itinerary. They can help you on the spot and answer any questions you may have.

If you should require any additional urgent assistance, we are available by phone and email during office hours and via our emergency phone outside of office hours.

The Baltics

Arrival and/or departure transfers between the local airport listed in the tour itinerary and your hotel are included in the price of the partly guided tour. For itineraries that also include the Nordic countries (i.e. Finland and Sweden), airport transfers are not included for those locations. Transfers will correspond with your arrival and departure flights. A representative will meet you at the airport and show you to the transfer vehicle.

If your arrival time changes due to a flight delay or other reason, please let us know as soon as possible so we can do our best to assist you. If we are not informed in advance, we may be unable to provide the scheduled transfer. We regret that no refund can be given for unused services.

Göta Canal Sweden

Airport transfer is not included. Information on how to get from the airport to your hotel using public transport or taxi will be provided with the travel documents.

While we also offer private airport transfers in the bigger Nordic cities, we do not necessarily recommend them for most customers, as the public transport options are easy to use and a much better value for the money.

You will receive detailed information in your travel documents on how to find your way from your hotel(s) to the transport terminals and any other items on your itinerary. This information will enable you to confidently navigate the unguided portions of the journey independently.

Luggage transport/assistance is not included in the price of a partly guided tour. There is storage space for luggage on board the different modes of transport (one suitcase and one carry-on per person) but you are responsible for lifting and carrying it yourself.

Whenever transfers are included, the driver will be happy to assist with loading and unloading your luggage.

The Baltics

Partly guided tours to the Baltics can start any day of the week year-round (subject to availability).

Göta Canal

Partly guided Göta Canal tours are available only during the summer months. At the top of each tour page, you will find a dark blue banner just below the intro. Click on the date field, and a calendar will open with possible departure dates shown in black (dates are subject to availability).

A complete overview of included services is specified near the bottom of each tour page.

The Baltics

Breakfast buffet is included every day of the tour. Additional meals must be purchased on the spot.

Göta Canal

Full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner) is included for the cruise portion of the trip.

Breakfast buffet is included for the Stockholm and Gothenburg parts of the itinerary. Additional meals must be purchased on the spot.

Please refer to the ‘services included’ section of each tour (located near the bottom of the page) for further details.

Please inform us in advance if you have any special dietary requirements.

Hotel breakfast buffets have a large selection with plenty of vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free options. Whenever other meals are included, hotels and other suppliers must be informed in advance – otherwise we cannot guarantee that they will be able to accommodate you.

The best way to inform us about any special dietary requirements is to add a comment in the ‘Please tell us’ section in Step 2 of the booking process (‘Extras’).

If you missed this, simply send an email to info@authentic-scandinavia.com.

We regret that we cannot offer a senior discount, as our contracted supplier rates do not allow additional discounts.

The Baltics

There is normally a 30% child discount on partly guided tours when a child under the age of 12 share a room with two full-paying adults.

Göta Canal

No child discounts apply.

To find the exact price for all travellers for a specific tour, please enter a travel date, travellers, room type and hotel category (Silver, Gold or Platinum) on the tour page (‘Check price & book now’).

Travel documents will be sent by e-mail approximately one month before travel. For last-minute bookings, they will be sent as soon as possible after receipt of full payment.

Included in the travel documents are a detailed travel itinerary that will make it easy for you to find your way during the self-guided portions of your trip, as well as the required proof of payment (vouchers and e-tickets) to present to the individual service providers.
