Accommodation in the Nordics & Baltics

Most of our tours offer a choice of hotel category: Silver, Gold or Platinum. This gives you the flexibility to select your preferred price and level of comfort. Please note that some tours offer fewer hotel categories, depending on the options available in those locations.

Frequently asked questions

Gold is our most popular tour category as it includes accommodation at 4-star equivalent hotels, unique properties or historical hotels selected for their atmosphere and/or location. The city hotels are centrally located, offer more amenities and breakfast buffets with a wider selection.

A seaside/outside cabin is included during overnight cruises (with window).

Whenever unique accommodation is included, Gold includes an upgraded alternative, e.g. a room with fjord view, a glass igloo or similar.

Platinum offers an elevated level of comfort at the finest handpicked hotels and unique properties. This tour category includes accommodation in upgraded rooms at 4- or 5-star equivalent hotels or at unique properties selected for their atmosphere and/or location.

An upgraded seaside cabin is included during overnight cruises (with window).

Whenever unique accommodation is included, Platinum includes the more luxurious alternative.

Important: In some locations, due to limited alternatives we have included the same hotel in all categories. Sometimes the room type will differ depending on the category.

We define all accommodation that is not a typical hotel as unique accommodation. This includes e.g. historical hotels, ice hotels, cabins, glass igloos, winter resorts or similar.

All unique accommodation is described in more detail on the tour page in the day-by-day itinerary.

An overview of the hotels we typically use for each category can be found on the individual tour page just below the map by clicking ‘See Silver accommodation’, ‘See Gold accommodation’ or ‘See Platinum accommodation’. If any of these hotels are fully booked, we will offer alternatives of equal standard.

Hotel breakfast buffets have a large selection with plenty of vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free options. This is especially true for Gold and Platinum hotels.

Even if only breakfast is included, we still recommend that you inform us in advance if you have any special dietary requirements so that we can inform the hotels.

Whenever other meals are included, whether at the hotel or as part of an experience booked through us, you must inform us about any dietary requirements – otherwise we cannot guarantee that the suppliers will be able to accommodate you.

The best way to inform us of any special dietary requirements is to add a comment in the ‘Please tell us’ section in Step 2 of the booking process (‘Extras’).

If you missed this, simply send an email to info@authentic-scandinavia.com.

The room types you can select during the booking process include double room, twin room, single room, double room with extra bed (triple room) and family room.

Our Platinum tour category can only be booked as a double or single room.

When booking a room for two people, you can select either a twin or double room. A twin room has two separate single beds, while the double room has one double bed (often queen size).

Single rooms are generally smaller than doubles and have a single bed, but more hotels are offering double rooms for single use. This is reflected in the single room supplement.

Unlike some other parts of the world, purpose-built triple rooms are unusual at Nordic/Baltic hotels. Whilst it is often possible for 3 people to share a room, this will normally consist of a normal double room with an extra bed (rollaway or pull-out sofa bed). As a result, room space may be constricted.

It is not possible to choose a triple room when booking our Platinum category. Not all Silver and Gold hotels offer triple rooms, either.

Whenever it is possible to book a triple room during the booking process, our team of travel specialists will select hotels with the best triple room options. Note that in some cases, these may differ from the hotels listed under ‘See Silver/Gold accommodation’.

A family room can only be booked for 2 adults and 2 children, and not for 4 adults.

A family room is normally a double room with a sofa bed. In some cases, we may have to book two double rooms.

Whenever it is possible to book a family room during the booking process, our team of travel specialists will select hotels/accommodations with the best family room options.

As a general rule, this is not possible. Family rooms are normally only bookable for 2 adults and 2 children up to 12 years.

There are some exceptions when unique accommodation – such as a cabin or similar – is included in the tour. If you are 4 adults looking to book a tour that includes unique accommodation and would like to share, please contact one of our travel specialists at info@authentic-scandinavia.com

Unless otherwise specified on the tour page under ‘services included’ and/or in the detailed description of the unique accommodation, all rooms have private bathroom facilities. The bathrooms are often equipped with a shower instead of a bathtub.

Although we always strive to book the requested room type, this cannot always be accommodated due to availability. Twin beds can often be pushed together, and therefore not all hotels differentiate strictly between twin and double rooms.

If you booked a triple or family room and none are available, we will contact you with alternatives (e.g. two double rooms instead of a family room). This may involve a category change for that location and/or a price adjustment.

Should you have any specific requests – e.g. quiet room, accessible room, rooms close to each other when travelling with others – please inform us during the booking process in the ‘Please tell us’ section in Step 2 (‘Extras’). The hotels will do their best to accommodate the request, although this cannot be guaranteed. Please note that certain requests – such as a room with a view, higher up in the building etc. – may incur an additional cost.
