Reindeer Sledding & Sami Culture in Alta

Experience the unique Sámi culture as you glide through the snow on a reindeer-drawn sled. Gather around a warm fire in a traditional Lavvo tent and learn about the reindeer and the Sami culture, whose traditions have been closely tied to these animals for generations.

Your journey begins with a reindeer sled ride, where you can sit back and enjoy the snowy landscape. If conditions are favourable, the evening tour may treat you to the Northern Lights dancing overhead, while the daytime tour offers the chance to spot the king of the forest; the Norwegian moose.

After the ride, you will be welcomed into a warm Lavvu (traditional Sami tent) and sit around the bonfire. Your Sami guide will tell stories about Sami culture and history and end the tour with the performance of yoik.

Note: Sami Siida is located 6 km from Alta city centre. A taxi from the centre costs around EUR 20 each way, but prices may vary if you are staying farther out. You can also take a public bus and buy your ticket directly from the driver using cash or card. Please ask your hotel for the current bus schedule or help arranging a taxi.
