The Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel in Alta is rebuilt every winter from nothing but snow and ice. You will sleep in warm, insulated sleeping bags laid over reindeer hides and a mattress placed on an ice bed frame. A heated building beside the hotel provides access to a restaurant as well as restroom.
The Igloo Hotel covers roughly 2,000 square meters, and everything from its outer walls to its interior spaces is crafted entirely from snow and ice. This includes the bedrooms, bed frames, and even the glasses in the ice bar. In addition to the rooms, the hotel includes an ice bar and multiple lounge areas. Each winter the hotel is redesigned around a new Arctic-inspired theme with ice sculptures that add artistic detail throughout the space.
Inside, the temperature remains steady between –4°C and –7°C. However, with reindeer hides on the beds and sleeping bags, guests stay warm and comfortable through the night.
For the best experience, it is suggested that you wear wool base layers, wool socks, a warm hat and gloves.
Beside the igloo structure stands a heated building equipped with a restaurant, restrooms, changing areas, showers, a sauna, two outdoor hot tubs, a reception area, and a souvenir shop. This building also includes a secure luggage room for storing your belongings.
The ice rooms are entirely constructed of ice and snow and contain an ice bed with an insulated mattress and reindeer hides. All other amenities such as toilets, showers, and sauna facilities are located in the warm service building for guests’ comfort.
