6: Birdwatching in the Arctic

Havila shore excursion from Honningsvåg: Join this bird watching safari by boat accross the nature reserve of Gjesværstappan near Magerøya Island.

At the little fishing hamlet of Gjesvær warm and cold ocean currents meet and create the ideal environement for dozens of species to settle down.

You will board a boat for the journey to the nature reserve of Gjesværstappan, home to a large colony of puffins, flocks of kittiwakes, as well as guillemots, cormorants, razorbills, gannets and skuas.

In the summer, many seabird eggs hatch in the nests carefully crafted on the 283 meter-high cliff. Bring your binoculars to see all the different bird species. The majestic sea eagle also prefers to hunt here, maybe you may see several circling high overhead.
