10: The World Heritage listed Vega Islands

Havila shore excursion from Sandnessjøen: Join one of the highlights on your southbound cruise - the beautiful island of Vega, listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Vega is between Sandnessjøen and Brønnøysund. This island with its wonderful cultural landscape is since 2004 on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The basis of the status is the tradition of the inhabitants on the island for tending wild eider ducks and the soft and warm quilts and pillows they produce.

Meet your guide at the quay of Sandnessjøen and by speedboat you will be transported to the old fishing village Gardsøy on Vega. You will visit the World Heritage Centre. You learn how the islanders and ducks work together to build nests in small houses, how the birds are protected during brooding, and the process of harvesting and purifying the precious eiderdown.

After an eventful day, you travel along the idyllic coastline to Brønnøysund and join the ship.
