This guided walk provides an introduction to Visby’s historic Old Town and its cultural heritage. The tour combines historic architecture, medieval church ruins, and local history with a visit to the Gotland Museum.
The tour begins with a walk through the Old Town, including a visit to St. Mary’s Cathedral. The route passes stone buildings dating from the 13th century and wooden houses from the 18th century, with information about life in the medieval city and the periods that followed.
The walk continues through Visby’s narrow streets and alleys. Several of Visby’s medieval church ruins are included along the route. You may also choose to walk through the Botanical Garden with the guide or explore the garden independently after the tour.
The tour concludes with a visit to the Gotland Museum, which presents the history and archaeology of Visby and Gotland. Its collections include Viking Age artefacts, picture stones from the Iron Age and Viking Age, and other historical objects.
