5: Sognefjellet Mountain Pass by Bus

Journey from the deep waters of Lustrafjord to the dramatic high mountains on this scenic bus tour along the Sognefjellet National Tourist Route. This spectacular journey takes you through constantly changing landscapes, from lush fjord valleys to rugged mountain terrain.

Departing from Skjolden, you will follow the shores of Lustrafjord before gradually climbing towards the high mountains. Along the way, admire the jagged peaks of the Hurrungane massif and discover how dramatically the landscape changes as you gain altitude.

At 1,434 meters above sea level, Sognefjellet is the highest mountain pass in Northern Europe. Your guide will share stories about the region’s history, geology and the people who have travelled through these mountains for centuries.

Several scenic stops are planned along the route, giving you plenty of opportunities to take photographs and admire the spectacular views. Highlights include Åsafossen waterfall and Mefjellet, located in the heart of the mountain plateau. From here, you can enjoy views towards the Fanaråken glacier and see a stone sculpture created by Norwegian artist Knut Wold.

This relaxing excursion is a great way to experience some of Norway’s most spectacular mountain scenery.
