2: Guided Walk in Rosendal

Nestled between the Hardangerfjord and dramatic mountains, Rosendal is a charming village where Norwegian history, culture and nature come together. This guided walk offers a great introduction to the area, taking you through its medieval heritage, traditional village life, fascinating geological landscape and beautiful historic gardens.

Your experience begins at Kvinnherad Stone Church, one of Western Norway’s best-preserved medieval stone churches. As you explore the village, your local guide will share stories about the church, the people who shaped Rosendal and the traditions that continue to define life in this fjord-side community.

The walk continues to Steinparken (Stone Park), an open-air park where nature, geology and art meet. Here, you can discover enormous rocks carried by glaciers from different parts of Norway, alongside sculptures and landscaped waterways that illustrate the country's fascinating geological history. There will also be time to explore the exhibition, browse the shop or enjoy a coffee at the café.

Following the river, you will then reach the beautiful gardens surrounding Barony Rosendal, Norway’s only barony and historic noble estate. Set against an impressive mountain backdrop, the gardens offer a glimpse into centuries of Norwegian and European history.

Combining local history, culture, geology and spectacular scenery, this gentle guided walk is an excellent way to discover the distinctive character of Rosendal and the Hardangerfjord region.
