5: UNESCO Stave Church and Traditional Boatyard

Discover two remarkable examples of Norway’s cultural heritage on this journey through the beautiful landscapes of Lustrafjord. Combining medieval architecture, traditional craftsmanship and spectacular fjord scenery, this excursion offers a fascinating insight into Norway’s history and living traditions.

Your first visit is to Urnes Stave Church, Norway’s oldest preserved stave church and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in the 12th century, the church is renowned for its remarkable wooden carvings and distinctive architecture, which beautifully blend Viking artistic traditions with Christian symbolism. During the visit, you will learn more about the church’s construction, history and importance in Norwegian culture.

The experience continues at Ornes Boatyard, where traditional wooden boats are still built and restored using techniques passed down through generations. Here, skilled craftsmen continue a proud maritime tradition that has played an important role in Norwegian coastal life for centuries.

To offer a more personal experience, guests are divided into smaller groups and visit both attractions in turn.

Combining UNESCO heritage, traditional craftmanship and beautiful fjord landscapes, this excursion is a wonderful opportunity to discover the stories, skills and traditions that continue to shape Norway today.
